Anthropic opened a limited hardware preview for AI agents

Anthropic opened a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard for selected scientific labs and manufacturers. The company says agents can use the standard to connect to microscopes, liquid handlers, robotic arms, and other programmable equipment.

Anthropic says the standard is model agnostic and can work through protocols such as the Model Context Protocol. CNBC reported that access is limited to a selected group in science, robotics, and manufacturing. Anthropic plans to make the standard open source later.

Why it matters
