Microsoft plans a persistent agent for Copilot

Microsoft announced Home, Code and Autopilot for Copilot on September 25. Microsoft says Autopilot can keep working between prompts, using its own identity and workspace.

Home and Code begin rolling out through Frontier in the coming weeks. Autopilot enters private preview at month's end. Work IQ business-data connections enter preview on September 30.

Microsoft is selling these products, so customers still need evidence that they perform as claimed. A private preview cannot show whether Autopilot works reliably without supervision. Home, Code, Autopilot and Work IQ also arrive on different dates.

Watch whether customers can control permissions and connect the work these products complete to what they are charged. Microsoft says it charges for Cowork, Code and Autopilot based on usage.
