The group will coordinate federal engagement with consumers, public-interest and religious groups, infrastructure providers and AI companies. AP reports that the group will report to Trump and chief of staff Susie Wiles. The announcement follows the previous week’s voluntary industry safety accord.
The appointment gives the group leaders and a job to do. It does not show that companies have kept their commitments or that any new binding safety rules are in force.
Watch for published recommendations, plans for reporting incidents and evidence of how the government will judge whether companies keep their commitments.
