Nvidia is in talks to buy Reflection AI, FT reports

The chipmaker could acquire the model lab or deepen its investment. No deal has been announced, and Reuters could not independently verify the talks.

The Financial Times reported on October 10 that Nvidia is in early talks to acquire Reflection AI or increase its backing. Reuters relayed the report. It describes several possible arrangements, including hiring staff and licensing technology. The discussions could still fall apart.

Reflection introduced Beam on October 5. Reflection says it will release the model weights later this month, after further evaluations. The company used Nvidia hardware to train the model.

Reuters could not independently verify the FT report, and neither company immediately responded to its requests for comment. There is no confirmed transaction, price or closing date. Beam’s performance comparisons remain company claims.

Nvidia already supplies the hardware that model developers depend on. If Nvidia bought a lab, it would also own a company that serves developers who may be its customers. A larger investment would give Nvidia less control than a purchase, so the two reported options have different consequences.

Watch for a company announcement that spells out ownership, licensing terms and whether Beam’s promised weight release will proceed. A hiring and licensing deal would also need scrutiny. That structure alone would not show that regulatory review is unnecessary.
