Bank of America added 1,000 contractors to fix flaws found by AI

CEO Brian Moynihan says the contractors joined in the second quarter and are still working. AI can find more software flaws, but people still have to fix them.

Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan told CNBC on October 14 that the bank added 1,000 contractors to fix software flaws. They joined in the second quarter and are still working. About 3,000 bank employees also work in that area. The work covers the bank’s own software and code from vendors. Advanced AI models, including Anthropic’s Mythos, found the flaws.

CNBC reports that software fixes and anti-money-laundering compliance added hundreds of millions of dollars to third-quarter costs. That combined figure is not a separate bill for Mythos.

The figures come from the CEO, not an independent audit of security gains. He expects remediation costs to decline. The disclosure does not establish an attack or breach. It also does not establish that all 1,000 contractors work only on Mythos findings.

Finding a flaw creates more work before it reduces risk. Someone still has to test the fix and put it into use.

Watch how long verified flaws stay open, whether fixes cause failures, and whether the contractor workload falls.
