Anthropic traces cryptographic curve seeds to an old random-number generator

Anthropic said on October 16 that an internal Claude research model traced five NIST prime-curve seeds to their origins. The method recreates the seeds with a 1990s random-number generator initialized with timestamps. Anthropic published the code so other researchers can test the result.

Anthropic's findings do not show that the signature system is broken, and the company says no change is needed. Researchers still do not know the origins of some base points or one binary-curve seed. The method also does not recover every design choice.

Researchers can use Anthropic's code to test the standard seeds. Some candidate curves from the historical selection process still have no known explanation.
