Canadian publishers say Anthropic trained Claude on their journalism
The Canadian Press reported on October 19 that Postmedia, Torstar, The Globe and Mail, and The Canadian Press are suing Anthropic in Ontario. They allege the company used their journalism to develop Claude without a valid licence. The lawsuit was filed on October 6, not on the report date.

The allegations have not been proven in court. The Canadian Press is both a plaintiff and the reporting source. Its report says Anthropic did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Watch for Anthropic's response and how the court treats the publishers' claims. A filed lawsuit starts a dispute. It does not decide whether the training was lawful.
